What should I expect at my appointment?

We start with a nutrition assessment/evaluation (1-1.5 hour) which includes pertinent medical history, medications and lifestyle patterns to create a plan that works for you. Follow ups (.5 – 1 hour) are scheduled depending on your goals. For issues concerning health or medical issues, most clients meet with a dietitian at least 3 times. Insurance coverage is taken into consideration when planning follow-ups.

What should I bring?


Please bring your doctor’s referral if applicable, insurance card and drivers’ license or other valid identification. In addition, please take 5-10 minutes to fill out the New Patient Paperwork using the secure portal link sent via email. This will help to save us time during your assessment. Most importantly, please bring your questions and concerns so that we help guide you as best as possible.

Does Preferred Nutrition accept medical insurance?

Absolutely! We are in-network providers for Aetna, AvMed, Beech Street, and Humana. Since each individual plan varies, please check with your provider prior to your appointment to see if nutrition is a covered benefit. We are out of network providers for Cigna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Health Care, Medicare, Tricare and MMSI. For these providers, we will gladly provide you with a receipt (after payment) for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What if I don’t have nutrition coverage? What will it cost?

In the event that your insurance does not cover nutrition services, the cost for an initial assessment is $160. We do offer discounts, so please call to inquire. Alternatively, groups are a very cost-effective way to learn the skills you need to help you reach your goals without an assessment fee. See group page for details.

What are your office hours?

Routine office hours are Monday through Friday 8-5, however we do offer some evenings/Saturdays to accommodate varying work schedules. Call 904-270-1234 or use our contact form to schedule your appointment.
