Preparing for Your Registered Dietitian Visit

Return to the Preferred Nutrition home page for an overview of services, groups, and how to reach us.

This page walks through what helps a first appointment go smoothly at our Jacksonville Beach office. It pairs with the broader service details on nutrition counseling and the intake steps on new patients.

Consultation setting for nutrition and health planning

Before You Arrive

  1. Confirm benefits if you plan to use insurance. Our new patients section lists carriers we often work with and what to verify with your plan.
  2. Gather a short medication and supplement list. Include dose and timing when you can. This helps your dietitian see the full clinical picture.
  3. Bring recent labs if you have them. Any work tied to diabetes, lipids, thyroid, kidney function, or anemia is especially useful when medical nutrition therapy is part of your goals.
  4. Jot down three priorities. Examples: steadier energy, less guilt after meals, better prep for training, or support during eating disorder recovery. Your RD will use these to shape the first session.

During the First Session

Expect questions about usual eating patterns, schedule, cooking access, and what has or has not worked in the past. We are not grading your food choices. The point is to understand context so recommendations fit your life, not a generic meal plan.

If you already booked through online scheduling, your clinician will have blocked enough time for history, goal setting, and a clear next step. Telehealth may follow a similar flow when that is the arrangement you chose.

After the Visit

Most people leave with one or two focused experiments to try before the follow-up. Those might relate to meal timing, grocery staples, labs to discuss with your doctor, or a referral to another member of your care team.

When you are ready to start, the fastest path is still the home page link to schedule or call 904-270-1234. We serve Jacksonville, the beaches, and nearby communities.
